L3 Commercial Training Solutions (L3 CTS) has received a contract from Republic Airline to provide a suite of training devices for its Embraer E175 flight training programme.

The training devices L3 CTS will deliver as part of the package with Republic include its ETHOS Systems Knowledge Suite and Procedures Training Suite, which will be deployed via iPad for distance learning purposes. The system also offers pilots a consistent user interface and training standardisation.

L3 CTS will also deliver three Enhanced Flat Panel Trainers (EFPTs), each with a hardware throttle quadrant, mode control panel, three-channel visual system, flight controls, rudder pedals, cursor control devices and multichannel display units. Each EFPT will also include an Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) trainer.

Finally, the company will provide Republic with a Virtual Flight Deck (VFD) classroom to be installed within the ground training centre, which consists of one Instructor Station and 15 Student Stations.

The devices will enable Republic to conduct ground training in-house for the first time, improving control over quality of instruction and monitoring of pilots as they go through training. Each of the solutions L3 CTS provides will be serviced through an extended support plan.

L3 CTS expects initial deliveries of the training suite at the end of October 2017, with the final elements of the suite to be delivered in early 2018.

“We are proud to build on our relationship with Republic Airline and to be able to support one of the largest regional airlines in operation in the U.S. with our innovative training solutions,” stated Alan Crawford, President of L3 CTS. “It is an exciting time for L3 as we continue to deliver our customised, high-quality programmes across North America and around the world.”

Paul Kinstedt, SVP Operations and Chief Operating Officer of Republic, said, “Our strategic relationship with L3 aligns with Republic’s guiding principles as well as our commitment to invest in technologies that provide the most advanced training available and improve our employees’ quality of life.”

Republic Airline is owned by Republic Airways and provides flights operated under its major airline partner brands of American Eagle, Delta Connection and United Express. Republic Airways has a fleet of 180 Embraer 170 and 175 aircraft.
