AXIS Flight Training Systems, a flight simulator manufacturer, installed an ATR 72-500 full flight simulator (FFS) at Flight Simulation Technique Centre (FSTC) in India and had it EASA Level D qualified. This was AXIS’ first delivery to South Asia.
The ATR 72-500 FFS is approved by India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which marked the simulator ‘outstanding’ after functional testing and inspection. AXIS also has simulators in Europe and North America.
Dr. Christian Theuermann, CEO of AXIS Flight Training Systems in Austria, says FFS uses Honeywell HT1000 simulated avionics, a 60¨ Moog Motion System, and a 200-degree by 40-degree collimated RSI XT4 visual system for ultimate realism and performance in the cockpit.
He says that, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), India was the fastest growing domestic aviation market in 2017 with a 17.4% year-on-year increase in passenger traffic.
“Pilots training on AXIS’ ATR 72-500 simulator, one of the region’s most popular aircraft types for short-haul routes, will be certified to fly into some of the top airfields in India,” says Theuermann. “These include the second-, third- and fourth-busiest airports in the country: Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, serving Mumbai; Kempegowda International Airport, serving Bangalore; and Chennai International Airport, serving Chennai.”
