The Tamworth Regional Council has purchased BAE’s pilot training facilities at Tamworth Regional Airport. The agreement follows the council’s announcement that Virgin Australia is the preferred airline to establish the pilot training academy.

While the existing training facilities are located on council-owned land at Tamworth Regional Airport, the facilities are owned by BAE who also invested in significant improvements.

“Acquisition of the training facilities represents significant progress towards finalising the new agreement with Virgin Australia,” said Tamworth Region Mayor Col Murray.

The purchase agreement for the facilities is the result of negotiations between the Council, BAE and the State Government.

BAE has advised that it will be winding down its training operations over the next 18 months. Over this period, Virgin Australia and its international partners will ramp up their training operations to fulfill the demand for the next generation of international airline pilots.
