Hong Kong Airlines has opened its new HKA Training Academy (HKATA) at the airport island of Chek Lap Kok.

The facility has 12 aircraft simulator bays, an eight-metre-high multi-function training hall and 24 training classrooms. It also has a 25-metre swimming pool for evacuation, safety and service training.

HKATA have installed CAE 7000XR series flight training simulators, which will train pilots operating the Airbus A330 and A350 types. It also boasts the Combined Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer (CEET) with smoke chamber function.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the airline's Chairman Hou Wei said that safety came first for the airline.

"We want to fulfill our vision to offer one of the most advanced aviation training programmes," Mr Hou said.

It is the third facility of its kind on the airport island.
