Airways Aviation have launched a new scholarship to encourage more students to consider a career as a pilot.

The scholarship was launched at the company's Airline Pilot Careers Day at London Oxford Airport. The careers day allowed prospective pilots to tour the facilities and experience first-hand what it would be like to train.

Despite the industry’s clear demand, the percentage of pilots globally is still surprisingly low. Airways Aviation said it wanted to bridge the gap by creating opportunities and reducing barriers to enter the profession.

"We believe there is an untapped market of talented men & women out there who, for whatever reason, have not considered pilot training as a possibility for them," said Romy Hawatt, Founder and Owner of Airways Aviation says.

"The launch of our new pilot training scholarship is the first, important step towards supporting more men & women to consider a career as a pilot, where a significant barrier to entry has been financial, not aptitude.”

Applicants for the scholarship will need to complete an online application form before the 1st of February 2020. Airways Aviation will then invite those candidates whose application meets the initial selection criteria to take the industry-standard COMPASS test. The top-scoring candidates will take part in the final stage, a presentation and panel interview at Oxford.
