The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) has taken delivery of six Diamond DA40NG aircraft, the first batch in a re-fleeting program that will total 20 aircraft in the coming years.

Hadi Abubakar Sirika, Minister of Aviation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, accepted the six airplanes at Diamond Aircraft Austria.

"In our effort to catch up with technology in line with our approved roadmap, we are happy about our state-of-the-art training aircraft from Diamond," he said. "Our efforts have earned the status of an ICAO Regional Training Center of Excellence."

The re-fleeting program includes 20 Diamond airplanes, five twin-engine DA42VI and 15 single-engine DA40NG. The college received one DA42VI in 2017.

Capt. Abdulsalami Mohammed, Rector/CEO of NCAT, was looking forward to utilising the new, efficient equipment. “The planes perfectly meet the requirements for modern aircraft as they run on jet fuel and are equipped with an electronic flight instrument system.”

Diamond say the DA40NG is an effective training platform for commercial cross-country navigation. It added that it also is suitable for instrument approach/landing procedures. There are over 2,240 types of this aircraft in worldwide operations.

NCAT boasts over 55 years of experience in providing human resource development in the aviation industry in Africa. It has produced over 20,000 professionals for the aviation industry in Nigeria and beyond.
