FlightSafety International is now offering the ground school portion of its recurrent pilot training programs online through its instructor-led LiveLearning training system. Group Editor Marty Kauchak writes.
Steve Gross, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, pointed out LiveLearning provides the benefits of classroom learning and the convenience of taking courses remotely. “They have live interaction with their instructor and others taking the course, and use of online annotation tools, cockpit recordings, video, interactive features and more.”
“FlightSafety worked with the FAA and other regulatory agencies to obtain approval for this innovative new approach, which includes the requirement to complete the simulation portion of the course within 90 days of finishing the online ground school,” he added.
The global training company began delivering training through LiveLearning in early April and is working to expand this to more than 20 helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft models. They include many of those built by Airbus Helicopters, Bell Helicopter, Bombardier, Dassault, Gulfstream, Leonardo, Piaggio, Embraer, Textron Aviation and Sikorsky.
Concurrently, FlightSafety is providing maintenance courses through LiveLearning and has scheduled over 100 events so far. Gross added, “They include courses for those who support and maintain ATR, Bombardier, Dassault, Embraer, Gulfstream and Textron aircraft as well as Honeywell and Pratt & Whitney Canada engines.” Training is delivered from centers in Dallas, Houston, Montreal, Savannah, St. Louis, Wichita and Wilmington.
FlightSafety Textron Aviation Training has also received approval from the FAA to expand its Online Ground School program. This self-paced training option provides the flexibility to complete the ground school modules within the 60 days prior to attending the simulator portion of the recurrent course. Gross said, “Online Ground School recurrent courses are now available for seven aircraft types at eight locations. Courses for the Cessna Citation CJ3, CJ3+, CJ4, Latitude, and M2, as well as the King Air 250 and King Air 350 Fusion are now available through the learning centers in Atlanta, Carlsbad, Columbus, Orlando, Tampa, Teterboro, and Wichita.”
FlightSafety is also bringing its forces to bear to support medical professionals during the Covid-19 pandemic. FlightSafety Simulation in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma is contributing to the safety of medical professionals through design and production of 3D-printed medical-grade respirators (masks). The respirators are protective devices designed for a close facial fit to help filter airborne particles. Gross concluded, “In partnership with a non-profit agency, FlightSafety is producing the three main rigid components of the masks which the partner organization then fits with a seal, filter and straps, and delivers to health professionals working in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area, to help keep them safe while treating Covid-19 patients.”
