Due to the Covid virus situation, Merlin Flight Simulation Group will be holding IT FLIES USA at The University of Dayton, Ohio, on 17 April 2021 as a ‘virtual’ event for the first time in 10 years.

All the participating universities will be submitting their designs for assessment as usual, however, although the test pilots will be evaluating these designs on Dayton’s MP521 Engineering Flight Simulator, there will not be any teams on site. Instead, they will be watching and listening on Zoom.

Assistant Professor Sidaard Gunasekaran from The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, who is organizing this Event at The University of Dayton said: "Hosting students across the globe in the IT Flies competition for the last 10 years has been incredible in terms of fostering connections among students, faculty, and test pilots across the nation and the world. I don't think any other equipment in the academic circles adds significant value to students learning as the Merlin Flight Simulator does. Whether it is for a class or for a competition, flying student designs in the sim and getting feedback from test pilots is a unique and memorable experience and brings a new dimension to experiential learning!"
