Symbiotics has launched its Remote Invigilation Solution to allow an invigilator to be virtually present during remote assessments, reducing the risk of cheating and allowing them to have a higher level of confidence in the output of their remote assessments. With the increased reliance on remote assessments being used to allow the continuation of assessment and selection in the aviation industry, a requirement has arisen to increase the confidence users of remote assessments have in their candidates’ results when trying to replicate strict exam conditions.

The solution, which is built into Symbiotics’ ADAPT assessments with no requirements for software installation, allows an invigilator to be present throughout their remote assessments as they would at a test centre. That Invigilator has the ability to view and address all candidates in a gallery view with the candidates being unable to see or hear each other. The invigilator is able to focus in on individual candidates or view a candidate’s desktop, allowing them to perform identity checks, environment checks, and verify that no cheating software or resources are being used. Images can be saved instantly at the click of a button to be viewed later.

Richard Brecknell, Symbiotics’ Technical Director, said: “Due to the restrictions placed on the aviation industry due to COVID-19, with travel restricted and safety precautions keeping facilities closed, organisations have been switching to remote assessments to allow the selection and assessment function to continue in preparation for the resurgence of the industry. This has led to a need to make remote assessments as reliable as possible in terms of preventing the opportunity for candidates to cheat and we are delighted to be releasing our Remote Invigilation Solution, designed to position an invigilator in a remote assessment and increase the confidence in the results received from a remote assessment.”

Symbiotics’ Technical Director Richard Brecknell will be presenting on Joined-Up Assessments in a Disjointed World – Effective and Robust Selection and Assessment at the free to attend Asian Aviation Education & Training Symposium (AAETS 2021) on Wednesday 2nd June 2021.

Online training needs well-conceived implementation strategies and tactics, as interaction among trainees and trainer changes significantly from the traditional learning environment. Read more in  Pivoting to Virtual Classrooms.

The presentation will cover the following topics: Symbiotics experience with providing remote assessments during the pandemic, different remote invigilation options and their strengths and weaknesses, how a remote invigilation solution looks in operation, and our tips and best practices for introducing a remote invigilation solution.
