Jason Davenhill is probably one of the few people to have taught at every level in the military, in all three armed services, as well as teaching civilians on fixed wing and helicopters. He is now an executive and performance coach, coaching supervisor, Human Givens psychotherapist and will be a speaker at  EATS 2022.

In Berlin, he will discuss the idea that pilots can teach themselves, using his own experiences to support this. Jason experienced a vast spectrum of flying instructors during his career but freely admits he taught himself to fly. "People mostly do their own learning," he says. Jason acknowledges that canned exercises can demonstrate the basics, but the real magic comes when aircrew have the freedom and self-awareness to review their own performance.

Jason will cite The Royal Air Force's pioneering introduction of aircrew performance coaching and how he applied it at the Army Air Corps to achieve full course pass rates. He is firmly of the belief more can be achieved in 90 minutes on the ground than in three hours in the air.

Jason's formative years were spent as a track athlete where he learned the value of continuous focused improvement. This ethos shaped his subsequent career in the Royal Air Force, which he joined after winning his green beret in the Royal Marines. He initially struggled in flying training, possibly because the style of instruction didn’t necessarily suit him, but, having scraped through, he operated the Chinook in most of the RAF’s adventures in the late 90s early 2000s. He operated on land and at sea with the Royal Navy in Bosnia, Kosova, Sierra Leone, Iraq, Afghanistan, Falkland Islands, Northern Ireland, Norway and Brunei.

Jason's insightful presentation is just one of several high calibre offerings we are delighted to bring to you at EATS 2022, which is packed full of the latest innovative training solutions for pilots and cabin crew. Supported by the training industry and subject matter experts, the EATS 2022 conference will provide practical solutions for those day to day challenges and offers key insights into the future of the industry.

Presentations and moderated discussions led by industry and airline experts will allow the airline training community to share best practice, lessons learned and the challenges of recovery and return to growth.
