IATA released perhaps better than expected data for May 2023 with RPK’s reaching 90.8% of pre-pandemic levels, with the US and Middle East both above their 2019 figures.

Asia Pacific continues its strong revival with traffic up almost 157% on May 2022 with a healthy load factor increase of 6.4% to 80%. Overall the Asia Pacific region is now expected to hit 2019 numbers in late 2023, early 2024, a significant improvement on past estimates of end 2024.

Traffic numbers across the other regions continue to show strong growth on May 2022 figures with the US and ME at about 31%, Latam at just over 26% and Africa at over 45%.

Europe’s almost 20% rise faces a major headwind with the recently announced threat of strike action at Eurocontrol over the peak summer travel period while the Biden administrations failure to appoint a new leader for the FAA, and recruit air traffic controllers shows a troubling lack of care for the US travelling public and a continuing indifference to commercial aviation.

However, the news about Asia Pacific is incredibly positive and emphasises the importance of APATS 2023 as the industry works together to tackle the issues that arise from such fast growth.

Back in person, we are once again hosting a three-stream conference and a vast exhibition hall where more than 50 companies will bring you a view of the latest developments for our training industry.

There are plenty of reasons to join us at APATS 2023 in Singapore, to listen and learn from regional and international speaker presentations, to visit the vendor booths, but most importantly share your ideas, your thoughts and your worries with colleagues from the region.

The keynote speeches will give a clear view of where the aviation industry is standing today, specifically the Asia-Pacific region, and what needs and solutions are needed.

Look through our Cabin Crew, Pilot and Maintenance conference program schedules and plan your visit to Singapore and the iconic Marina Bay Sands here.
