Flint Systems started working on a virtual reality (VR) simulator of a pushback vehicle, used to tow aircraft on the airport apron. The simulator was ordered by Welcome Airport Services Sp. z o.o., a handling agent in Poland.

The pushback vehicle simulator will be handed over to the customer by November this year.

As part of the order, Flint Systems will provide two training stations: stationary/fixed for learning theory and mobile for learning practice, i.e. moving the vehicle on the apron. Both stations will be supplied with both software and hardware produced from Flint Systems, i.e. physical elements needed to learn realistic simulation.

Training on the VR simulator will allow the process of pushing planes out of airport gates to be practiced without risking the safety of people and equipment.

The training scenarios assume the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge, e.g. vehicle inspection (activities to be checked with a checklist), operation of 10 drawbar models and verification of several elements, connecting the drawbar to the aircraft and pushing the aircraft in various weather conditions.

“Thanks to our experience and know-how, we are able, in a few months, to provide our client with a safe and realistic training environment that will change the way of training in the field of pushback vehicles in the aviation industry,” said Grzegorz Szatkowski, Vice President of the Management Board of Flint Systems. “Together with Welcome Airport Services, we will create a unique tool for learning in VR, which is not yet available on the market.”
