India's burgeoning female pilot numbers continue to grow with a year-on-year 22% rise in the number of commercial pilots licenses issued to women, the Times of India reported.

Women now make up 14% of the country's airline pilots—more than double the global average.

The Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) told the Indian newspaper that 18% of the record 1,622 commercial pilots certificated last year were women. The DGCA anticipates this positive trajectory to persist, solidifying the position of women in aviation.

"This is the second consecutive year where the number of licenses issued reached a decade high," stated the DGCA.

The numbers are required to help keep pace with India's booming aviation market. Air India and IndiGo have over 1600 planes on order, with thousands of pilots required to fly them.

Halldale recognises the importance of fostering this momentum. That is why we have taken a proactive stance by establishing the Women in Aviation Training Forum (WiAT). This forum serves as a dynamic platform for female aviators, providing support, mentorship, and networking opportunities within the aviation training community.
