Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) is addressing pilot and air traffic controller mental health in its aviation programs, according to its news.

ERAU’s Dean of the College of Aviation, Dr. Alan Stolzer, was part of the FAA-commissioned committee that examined obstacles preventing pilots and air traffic controllers from seeking mental health support and made recommendations to mitigate these issues and reduce flight safety risks.

Following a review by an FAA-commissioned committee, 24 recommendations were made to improve mental health support without compromising safety. These include non-punitive disclosure of mental health conditions, relevant FAA medical screening, expanded peer support programs, and increased mental health awareness. The aim is to remove barriers to seeking help and modernize the system to reduce flight safety risks.
