Skyfarer Academy has launched a new online aviation training platform offering live flight and ground instruction. Designed to support both aspiring and experienced pilots, the platform connects users with flight instructors who provide specialized, accessible training.
The platform offers a supplemental training resource for those enrolled in Part 61 and Part 141 programs, traditional flight schools, or online ground school programs. Skyfarer Academy aims to reach a wide range of pilots, including those seeking certifications, preparing for flight reviews, or enhancing proficiency. By offering access to a variety of skilled instructors, Skyfarer Academy helps address the high dropout rate among student pilots, as noted by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), which reported an attrition rate of 70-80%.
Skyfarer Academy’s online structure enables instructors to reach students without geographical limitations, enhancing traditional training approaches. Instructors can offer personalized, targeted guidance to students and deliver lessons tailored to specific needs. This approach, according to co-founder and CAO Todd Davis, addresses challenges many students encounter, such as limited access to qualified instructors for niche areas of aviation.
“Student pilots often face difficulties finding the right instructor to guide them through specific challenges in their training,” said Davis. “Our online sessions provide the support students need to advance, while instructors can broaden their reach and reduce dropout rates.”
In addition to 1-on-1 instruction, Skyfarer Academy plans to expand its offerings with small group sessions. Students can manage their schedules with features such as calendar integration, providing flexibility in their learning experience. The platform’s vetting process ensures instructors are both qualified and committed to high-quality instruction, meeting the needs of students at any skill level.
