American Airlines has recognized five of its top Aviation Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) for their outstanding contributions to the field as recipients of the prestigious Ken MacTiernan Excellence in Aviation Maintenance Award. This annual award, established in 2019, celebrates AMTs at American who demonstrate exceptional professionalism, uphold the highest standards in aircraft maintenance, and actively promote the aviation maintenance profession.
“Each year, we gather to celebrate American’s best and brightest AMTs,” said Kevin Brickner, American Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Technical Operations. “Not only are we honoring these mechanics for the critical work they do to ensure the safety of our customers and team members, but also for their dedication to their communities and the future generation of AMTs. The honorees are an inspiration to their colleagues and the entire aviation maintenance industry.”
This year's award recipients are Edmund (Ed) Bossart, Los Angeles (LAX), 44 years of AMT service; Joni Haddorff, Las Vegas (LAS), 24 years of AMT service; Armen Hambartsounian, Los Angeles (LAX), 25 years of AMT service; Dennis Lyle, Tulsa, Okla. (TUL), 35 years of AMT service; and John Wong, Kingston, Jamaica (KIN), 35 years of AMT service.
The award is named after Ken MacTiernan, a San Diego-based AMT who has been with American Airlines for over 38 years. MacTiernan is widely recognized for his pivotal role in creating National AMT Day, celebrated on 24 May each year to honor aviation maintenance technicians who are committed to maintaining safe and reliable aircraft.
American Airlines continues to support and recognize the vital role AMTs play in ensuring operational excellence and safety, both within the company and across the aviation industry.
