Universal Air has launched its first fully sponsored Pilot Scholarship Programme for 2024, marking a significant milestone in Malta's aviation sector. This initiative reflects Universal Air's dedication to fostering local talent and supporting the community by providing aspiring pilots with an opportunity to start their aviation careers.

The 14-month programme is designed to transform individuals with no prior flying experience into qualified First Officers, ready to operate a 78-seater Dash 8 – 400 aircraft. Training will be conducted in partnership with a local flying school.

The scholarship seeks candidates who demonstrate not only a passion for aviation, but also resilience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Eligibility criteria include being at least 18 years old by October 1, 2024, holding a minimum of five O’levels including Maths, English, and a Science at grade 3 or higher, and being fluent in English. Applicants must also meet the requirements for an EASA Class One Medical and have the right to live and work in Malta and the EU. The course comprises five phases, leading to the issuance of a Commercial Pilot's Licence (fATPL), with final training focused on the Dash 8 – 400 aircraft.
