GlobalAir.com, an online resource for the private aviation sector, has announced the recipients of the 2024-25 Calvin L. Carrithers Aviation Scholarship. This year's class marks the 10th year that GlobalAir.com has helped the pilots of tomorrow build hours and their careers.
Aiden Weaver is a Cuban-American from Morehead City, N.C. He is a freshman studying Aeronautical Science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Luke Wadsworth of Austin, Texas, is also at the Daytona campus. He started flight training a year ago, getting his PPL in May, and is working on his instrument rating.
Lily Salow is working on obtaining her private pilot's license at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona.
Karylle Lausa of Des Plaines, Illinois is a sophomore at Indiana State University, double majoring in Professional Aviation Flight Technology and Aviation Management.
Each scholarship recipient will receive $1,000 for the academic year. As part of the award, recipients will share their educational journey by contributing to a blog, providing insights into their experiences in aviation and working with the GlobalAir.com social media team.
Scholarship Coordinator Selise Askeland is entering her first full year of helping select and mentor the scholarship recipients. A pilot and former awardee of the honor knows, she knows the value of such an honor first-hand.
"The four recipients this year had fantastic applications," she said. "Lily, Luke, Aiden and Karylle are all dedicated individuals who are exemplary of the GlobalAir.com mission. I am looking forward to working with them and I am excited to see what they will accomplish."
The merit-based scholarship program evaluates applicants on their academic achievements, a personal essay, and a letter of recommendation. It is open to U.S. residents enrolled in accredited aviation programs at colleges and universities across the country. Many past recipients have gone on to successful careers as corporate and commercial pilots, among other roles in the industry.
Notably, last year’s cohort marked a historic milestone, with all the winners being women—a first since the scholarship’s inception in 2015.
The next application period opens in March, and interested students can apply online at Global Air’s website. You can also follow the journeys of the scholar-pilots from their blogs linked on that page.
