The demand for more professionals across the commercial aviation enterprise is multi-dimensional and remains strong. Of interest to CAT, as maintenance organizations expand their collaboration is the trend to include cooperative training and like activities in their strategic goals.
This October 25, ATS Maintenance and ATS Technic, two completely different companies, signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on providing line maintenance services, resource sharing, and, as significant, joint training initiatives. An accompanying press release read in part, “By combining their technical expertise, the partnership is set to enhance service quality, reduce aircraft downtime, and expand geographical service coverage for their respective clients, in particular. across Europe and the Middle East.”
ATS Maintenance provides comprehensive line maintenance services across Denmark and Norway with operations in Aalborg, Billund, Copenhagen and Haugesund, and other capabilities.
ATS Technic is a global leader in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, specializing in providing comprehensive solutions to commercial airlines and private operators. The company was the first independent EASA-certified Line maintenance organization in the UAE.
This is a time of portfolio and capabilities expansion at the companies.
In one case, ATS Technic, also recently announced the launch of its state-of-the-art base maintenance hangar at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai. As the first aluminum-based hangar in the UAE, it will set a benchmark for sustainability in the industry. The hangar is expected to be completed in 2025.
Beyond infrastructure advancements, Kristinn Thor Erlendsson, Accountable Manager and Co-Owner of ATS Maintenance, provided the following insights on her team’s training, noting their current training program is conducted
either online via Teams or in person. "ATS Maintenance is highly interested in the future of VR training, both for type rating and software training. Given the complexity of our operations, with multiple operators and type ratings, VR would greatly support currency and knowledge retention at ATS.” The executive noted ATS Maintenance believes that, in the near future, VR training will become part of its program, and they look forward to Part 147 training facilities offering this technology at a new level, enhancing both efficiency and knowledge for their CRS (certificated repair station). “Currently, ATS services aircraft ranging from the ATR to the A330, continually broadening our range of approvals,” the executive concluded.
The prospects for joint training, the migration to VR – the ATS Technic and ATS Maintenance team has this author’s attention. We’ll be following their journey to strengthen their learning capacity and competencies as they move forward.
