Serious-Games-Showcase

The Serious Games Showcase & Challenge (SGS&C) committee has selected the 2022 finalists to be showcased at the Interservice/industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (IITSEC), 28 November –  2 December. Winners from this group will be recognized at an awards presentation on Thursday, 1 December at 1:00pm in the Innovation Showcase booth #2588.

“Serious games can be used for training or learning in most every sector,” said Amanda Bond, SoarTech, and SGS&C IPT Chair. “Our finalist games represent a wide variety of topics, from foundational STEM learning to medical professional and public health topics to military decision making and showcase the flexibility of how serious games can really be utilized in an endless number of industries.”

This year’s finalists categorized by audience are:

General Audience Serious Games:

  • ARIN-561 by USC Institute for Creative Technologies
  • HoloBrand by University of Applied Science Trier
  • Medical imaging VR a student-developed game from Ulster University UK and Fresno State University California
  • Numbers and Letters a student-developed game from Ulster University UK and Fresno State University California
  • Pirates of the Sea++ a student-developed game from Norfolk State University
  • Poconostics by BlueHalo
  • PreSore: 3D Pressure Injury Prevention Simulation Game by Simofun and Koç University
  • RoboCo by Filament Games
  • Top Derm by Level Ex

Government Audience Serious Games:

  • Advanced Haptics Burn Care: Escharotomy by Engineering & Computer Simulations, Inc. (ECS)
  • Army Fuel Digital Training Environments by Potawatomi Training, Army U, CASCOM

Jennifer McNamara, Breakaway Games, and SGS&C director, said, “Our showcase this year once again highlights novel game and XR-based learning approaches that wouldn’t normally be seen within the standard I/ITSEC community. We believe that some of our finalists offer innovation beyond what established companies might showcase and that brings new potential for training systems of tomorrow.”

The Serious Games Showcase & Challenge (SGS&C) recognizes excellence in the field of Serious Games development. Since 2006, SGS&C has helped foster creativity and innovation in Serious Games as part of NTSA’s I/ITSEC conference held each year in Orlando, Florida. An esteemed panel of evaluators from around the globe review the finalists and select all the winners, except for the People’s Choice award, which is voted on by I/ITSEC attendees.
