Rockwell Collins completed first Flight2 avionics system integration in Toulouse for the French Air Force C-130H Hercules modernization program.
Flight2 is Rockwell Collins’s next generation of communications navigation surveillance/air traffic management solution, enabling the C-130 to comply with the most recent International Civil Aviation Organization standards. The company has fitted more C-130 upgrades than any other single provider around the world.
This marks progress one year after Rockwell Collins was selected by the French Defense Procurement Agency to modernize 14 French Air Force C-130H Hercules military transports.
“This milestone is the next step in supplying tested modification kits directly to fielded French Air Force C-130H aircraft,” said Philippe Bardet, managing director, Rockwell Collins for France. “Upgrading to the Flight2™ system provides the French Air Force with the latest generation of avionics that provide a tactical advantage in military operations and external conditions, while optimizing budget and minimizing aircraft downtime.”
The work was done in the company’s system integration laboratory, which allowed French Air Force crews to evaluate the integrated system on real hardware in a simulated cockpit. This gives engineers the chance to modify and test frameworks before using them in a live environment.
Another upgrade soon includes outfitting the aircraft with Rockwell Collins’s dual Head-up Guidance System with infrared cameras and EVS multispectral enhanced vision system to improve pilot situational awareness. These enhance operational capabilities and support increased mission specific requirements.
