The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is exploring how telexistence capabilities can benefit U.K defence and security.

The MOD said it wants to better understand the technology readiness level to inform future investment. It wants solutions that allow users to interact with or immerse themselves in a remote location as if they were physically there.

Potential solutions should mitigate the risk associated with operating in hazardous domains. It must allow the operator to interact with the environment in real-time and be tangibly demonstrated. It can include AI elements but must permit the operator to remain in the loop, the MOD said.

Suppliers should provide examples of potential use cases within defence and security.

Submission deadline is April 27. The MOD said it hoped to decide whether they required a combination of separate solutions or extra development for a complete solution.

It added that the telexistence process was not a commitment to launch a formal DASA competition.
