The Royal Navy is continuing its global operations but is ready to provide help at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than a dozen warships and submarines are in deployment on front-line operations from south Georgia to south-east Asia. They are keeping the UK safe and the sea lanes open for trade.
In the UK, Royal Navy and Royal Marines Reservists are on standby as part of the military’s COVID -19 response. Royal Navy surgeons, GPs, nurses and medical specialists are already working side-by-side with their NHS colleagues in hospitals across the country – especially Derriford in Plymouth and Queen Alexandra in Portsmouth.
Operation Rescript is the code name of the UK home mission, British media said. Operation Broadshare is the parallel mission to aid the UK overseas, including territories like the Falkland Islands.
The head of the Royal Navy, First Sea Lord Admiral Tony Radakin, said, “The Royal Navy’s responsibility is to protect and defend the UK and its interests.
"In times of crisis, we are ready to support and assist the government wherever needed. But our duties remain unchanged, and we continue to deliver on operations around the world.
"I am proud of the way in which our sailors and marines have carried on undaunted by the current circumstances."
