3D perception (3DP) signed a contract for delivery of 10 immersive visual display systems (VDS) to several customers under contract with defense and security company Saab. Having previously delivered nine similar systems on behalf of Saab, this follow-on contract is for advanced variants of 3DP’s Atlas range of dome display systems for fast-jet simulators.

Atlas displays are optimized for the field of view, speed, and precision necessary for fixed-wing fast-jet training. With low smear, and large fields of view (up to 360-degrees), Atlas displays combine 3DP’s latest generation display processor, a modular dome screen, and solid-state 4K projectors to provide a high immersion, high-fidelity experience. Precision autocalibration via screen-embedded sensors ensures a consistent lifelike environment for mission critical training. Eclipse dynamic optical blenders and optional light closeouts coupled with the system’s advanced scenario management support training at all times of day including use of night vision goggles (NVG).

Recent applications for Atlas display also include Grob G120TP, Beechcraft T-6C, Leonardo M346, and Pilatus PC-6 and PC-7 systems. Atlas displays have been certified for FAA Level 6 flight training devices.

The advanced configuration is a result of a close cooperation between Saab’s team of system architects and 3D perception from concept to final design to meet the demanding standards for training of pilots as well as serving as a testbed for future evolution of the Gripen E system.
