Bell Textron was recently awarded a Foreign Military Sales contract worth US$8.9 million to deliver a fully assembled AH-1Z Flight Training Device (FTD) for the Royal Bahrain Air Force.
Bell is expected to deliver the AH-1Z FTD by February, 2022. The Bahrain Defence Forces had specifically requested Bell to supply the AH-1Z FTD.
The AH-1Z FTD will also be used to train pilots on Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) navigation training, Naval Aviation Training and Operational Procedure Standardization (NATOPS) procedures, emergency procedures training, Night Vision Goggle (NVG) training, Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) training, weapons deployment, as also networked training within existing infrastructures.
Bahrain is only the second export customer for the AH-1Z attack helicopter, with an order for 12 examples placed in 2018 and further deliveries slated for 2022. Pakistan is the other customer for the type, also with 12 on order but deliveries are on pause. The Philippines is also considering a purchase of six of the type.
