China-Holds-Joint-Sea-Air-Patrol-Exercises-in-Hong-Kong-2

The Hong Kong Garrison of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) recently undertook joint air-sea patrol exercises in the waters and airspace near Hong Kong. The drill involved Chinese Army, Navy and Air Force personnel and was aimed to test and improve the troops’ capabilities of fulfilling emergency missions, making quick response and carrying out joint operations, an article on a PLA sponsored website claimed.

The training drills involved Search and Rescue (SAR) training in nearby waters, followed by Visit, Board, Search And Seizure (VBSS) operations on a "suspicious vessel", which was tracked by air force helicopters. Once the suspected vessel was forced to stop, Chinese special operations teams using speedboats, boarded the vessel and took control.

The joint air-sea patrol exercises also involved aviation, radar and naval units present at the Hong Kong Garrison in an effort to enhance joint operations across units.
