Russian Navy Project 12322 Zubr Class air cushion landing craft (hovercraft) - Evgeny Kocheshkov and Mordovia recently participated in exercises off the coast of the Kaliningrad region. Project 12322 Zubr Class hovercraft are the largest in the world and can accommodate several tanks/infantry fighting vehicles and approximately 140 troops.

“In the course of performing combat training tasks, the crews also carried out amphibious assault landing on the unequipped coast. A unit of the airborne assault company of the Baltic Fleet marines on ten BTR-82A armoured personnel carriers was involved in the landing,” a Russian Ministry of Defence release stated.

The exercises involved crews of both hovercraft training on damage control, radiation, chemical and biological protection of ships at sea.

The Evgeny Kocheshkov and Mordovia are in service with the Baltic Fleet and used for amphibious assault. The crews of both hovercraft also performed live firing on surface and air targets using their 30mm AK-630  Close In Weapon System (CIWS).
