Trideum Director of Information Technology and Orlando Operations, Matt Spruill, served as Program Chair for the virtual Interservice, Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (vIITSEC).
Spruill was one of many Trideum team members with key roles in the conference that brings together military services and industry from all over the world to educate and demonstrate the newest innovations in modeling, simulation, and training.
“Trideum prides itself on ‘Solving the World’s Toughest Challenges,’ and as program chair, Matt was challenged to convert the world’s largest modeling, simulation and training event into a virtual experience,” said Van Sullivan, Trideum President and CEO. “It’s amazing, but not surprising based on Matt’s skills and experience, to see what he has achieved in creating this virtual event.”
“Even though we were not able to interact in person, the use of technology allowed us to create a very successful conference,” Spruill said. “While I miss the personal interaction, I am very proud of what we have collectively achieved.”
Spruill joined Trideum in 2017 after a 20-year career with the U.S. Army, 10 of which involved providing live, virtual, and constructive training solutions at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels. He has 29 years of success leading complex, diverse organizations with programs and resources of increasing scope and responsibility.
As a recognized leader in the modeling and simulation community, Spruill served as a conference chair at the Modeling and Simulation World Conference and Exposition. He served as a member of the Modeling and Simulation Task Force for Senator Mark Warner (Virginia), the Advisory Board for ECPI Database/Simulation and Game Programming, the chairman of the board for the Virginia Modeling & Simulation Partnership, and was a delegate to the I/ITSEC Simulation and Emerging Concepts subcommittees.
“Serving as the 2020 vIITSEC program chair is a highlight of my career and it has been a true honor to lead a group of 277 volunteers who planned, prepared, and executed a conference of this magnitude,” said Spruill. “It is a great way for me to give back to a community that has given me so much.”
Spruill has served in increasing leadership roles for I/ITSEC since 2015. As program chair this year, Spruill is slated to be the I/ITSEC Conference Chair in 2022.
In addition to Spruill’s leadership, several Trideum employees were featured in vIITSEC programming. Michael O'Connor, Kurt Lessman, Jamie Pilar, Tammie Smiley, and Walter Watford presented tutorials and papers at the conference. The tutorials were “Distributed LVC Event Integration & Execution Process” and “LVC Interoperability 101.” The papers were entitled “Army Analysis, Modeling and Simulation Education, Training & Development Effort” and “Data Informed Content Development to Meet Army Simulation Educational Needs.” Finally, Trideum was one of just 23 companies to be selected to present at vIITSEC’s Innovation Showcase. “Reimagining the Future” described the uses of two of Trideum’s leading cyber solutions for government and industry, CyberChEC and Virtual Tabletop.
