Sukhoi-Su-25

The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced that a Russian-Uzbek exercise held in an area bordering Afghanistan will also feature Sukhoi Su-25SM ‘Frogfoot’ ground attack aircraft belonging to the Central Military District (CMD).

The joint Russian-Uzbek exercise will be held from July 30 to August 10 in the Surkhandarya region of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Su-25SM’s from the joint Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan will take part in the training exercises to be held at the Termez training ground located in an area bordering Afghanistan. The Russian contingent will feature personnel from a peacekeeping unit and a special purpose brigade.

“During the exercise, Russian pilots will provide air support to a joint group of troops performing combat training tasks to preserve the territorial integrity of the states of the Central Asian region,” a Russian MoD release announced.

The Commander of the Central Military District Colonel-General Alexander Lapin had also earlier announced that troops from Russia and Uzbekistan would also participate in exercises taking place in the Republic of Tajikistan from August 5-10. The exercises will take place at the Kharb-Maydon training ground.
