John-Mikal Størdal took over as Head of the Collaboration Support Office (CSO) of the NATO Science and Technology Organisation (STO), effective 1 July, replacing Dr Pavel Zuna, who has taken up a new assignment at the Military Technical Institute of the Czech Republic. Størdal has an extensive technical background that includes undersea warfare, systems engineering, navigation and combat management systems. Prior to joining the CSO, he was Director General of the Norwegian Defence Research Institute. Since 2012, he has also been the Norwegian representative on the NATO Science & Technology Board and the Research and Technology Steering Board of the European Defence Agency.

Alvaro Herraiz Solla, Lieutenant Commander, Spanish Navy, has been appointed Head of the Modelling and Simulation Coordination Office (MSCO). He replaces Commander Santiago Fernandez Dapena, who completed his three-year tour with MSCO.

The STO delivers innovation, advice and scientific solutions to meet NATO’s ever-changing needs. Located in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, the CSO is providing executive and administrative support to the Science and Technology activities. The co-located MSCO supports the NATO Modelling and Simulation Group (NMSG), one of the seven CSO committees, in its mission to maximise the effective utilisation of Modelling & Simulation in NATO.

The next event, jointly organized by NMSG and MSCO, will be the MSG-184 Symposium on "Towards Training and Decision Support for Complex Multi-Domain Operations", to be held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 21-22 October 2021.
