A joint training exercise involving the armed forces of all Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states has concluded in Russia. SCO member states Russia, India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took part in Exercise Peace Mission-2021, which also featured Belarus for the first time.
The joint training exercises focussed on combating terrorism which took place between September 14-24, were held at the Orenburg Region of South West Russia.
The exercises were focussed on countering new tactical techniques used by international terrorists and ironing out issues related to combating Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), ensuring information security and preventing terrorist attacks using chemical and biological weapons.
The participating forces took part in joint counter terrorism operations undertaken at operational and tactical levels in an urban environment, culminating in a final validation exercise held in a controlled and simulated environment.
Ex Peace Mission-2021 featured more than 3400 servicemen, with approximately 2000 personnel from the Russian military. Underway since 2003, the first edition of Ex Peace Mission took place in Kazakhstan and China.
