3D perception (3DP) has been contracted for the delivery of an Atlas immersive visual display system (VDS) to a Swedish Defence Material Administration’s (FMV) simulator facility, under contract with defense and security company Saab.

The display system – an upgrade of an older generation system – is a turn-key solution comprised of 3DP’s latest generation display processor, a modular dome screen, and eight CompactView 4K40 high-resolution 4K-resolution projectors with night scenario capabilities. The high-resolution and completely seamless VDS is automatically aligned via sensors embedded in the dome screen, expediting and simplifying maintenance procedures.

The advanced upgrade configuration is a result of a close cooperation between Saab’s team of system architects and 3D perception from concept to final design and implementation to meet the demanding standards for training of pilots as well as serving as a testbed for future editions of the Gripen C/D system. Saab’s Technical Manager for Visualization, Daniel Ohlsson, expressed his admiration for the speed and accuracy of 3DP’s embedded auto-calibration system and the quality of the high-fidelity image. “This upgrade represents a new standard for quality and maintainability in our deliveries.”

3D perception’s advanced Northstar visual display solution combines an advanced rack-mount multi-projector display processor, nBox, with 3DP Certified Projectors and image auto-alignment technologies in the form of Aurora sensor-instrumented smart screens, or StarScan, a screen-independent, precision 3D scanner and imager. Northstar is Image Generator (IG) independent and requires no software on or modification of the IG.

The company is demonstrating their Northstar technologies from 29 November to 2 December in Orlando, Florida at I/ITSEC, the world’s largest modeling, simulation, and training conference.
