PLAAF-J-20s-Undertake-Night-Training

J-20 5th generation fighter jets belonging to the Peoples Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) have begun night flying training for the new year.

The PLAAF is increasing the intensity of night flying training and the recent exercises witnessed four J-20 aircraft belonging to an aviation brigade carrying out night time Beyond Visual Range (BVR) air combat training.

In a video of the night training exercises posted online, Li Ling Commander of the PLAAF Aviation Brigade said that since the start of 2022, the difficulty and intensity of night flying training was being increased to enhance the PLAAF’s night combat capability. “We have made training after midnight and before dawn our new norm, to develop the ability to fight at any time,” he said.

The J-20s also practised together with a PLAAF air defence unit over the course of the exercises, with two aircraft working in close concert with the air defence unit to engage intruding enemy aircraft.
