The Australian Army is accelerating training of crew on its new UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, which were inducted into service in 2023. The fleet is on track to achieve an initial operational capability in the coming months.
Australia’s fleet of fleet of UH-60M helicopters have rapidly been brought into service, with the aircraft and crew accumulating over 1,400 flight hours since the type’s arrival in 2023.
Australia’s Department of Defence in a release stated that Army soldiers and aviators have undertaken essential platform training, special operations training activities and first of class flight trials, supporting the continuous investment in a highly capable and ready Army.
Defence stated that training on the Black Hawk’s will continue in November, with test and evaluation of the aircraft’s capability, and counter-terrorism training to be conducted across the greater Sydney region. “Undergoing this training is an important milestone for the aviation capability,” said Commander Army Aviation Command, Major General Stephen Jobson. “This specialised, complex training will ensure our soldiers and aviators are able to rapidly respond to domestic emergencies and potential security threats.”
The Australian Army took delivery of ten UH-60M Black Hawks since August 2023 and two additional helicopters are slated for delivery this month. All 40 aircraft are slated for deliver by 2030.
