Adaptive Immersion Technologies has launched the Multiplayer Adaptive Virtual ENvironment (MAVEN) Broken Arrow, a virtual reality training system for explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams.

This new, immersive platform simulates emergency "Broken Arrow" scenarios that train EOD teams in responding to downed aircraft containing nuclear ordnance. MAVEN leverages virtual reality technology to create a multiplayer training environment that replicates real-world conditions – including weather patterns and radiation physics – while providing digital models of actual radiation detection equipment.

Adaptive Immersion’s MAVEN system represents a transformative leap in preparing warfighters to handle weapons of mass destruction if they encounter nuclear accident/incident situations. MAVEN’s intelligent scenario-generation capability allows instructors to rapidly create custom training exercises or leverage an AI-driven system to generate scenarios tailored to test specific skills based on a trainee’s past performance. With over 50 dimensions of task performance assessment across eight unique, cognitive skill constructs, MAVEN provides comprehensive after-action reviews for immediate feedback and continuous improvement.

“A real-life ‘Broken Arrow’ situation describes a nontheft-related compromise of a nuclear weapon, for example, the loss of such a weapon in transit, or radioactive material accidentally exposed to the atmosphere,” said Phillip Mangos, Ph.D., Adaptive Immersion’s CEO and chief scientist. “Fortunately, these situations are extraordinarily rare – ‘Black Swan’ level events - but considering the potential impacts they present, the warfighters who specialize in these areas deserve the best training possible for worst-case scenarios. MAVEN represents an important tool in their preparation, and Adaptive Immersion is proud to contribute to the best training we hope they’ll never need.”

MAVEN provides an adaptive, accessible and cost-effective solution that addresses the critical need for frequent skill retention in high-risk, low-frequency missions, offering an on-demand training platform that aims to significantly reduce the time, personnel and funding required for traditional, live exercises.
