British Army soldiers are being trained to fly First Person View (FPV) kamikaze drones using virtual reality (VR) headsets, offering a new precision strike capability on the battlefield.
These drones, effectively used by Ukrainian forces, can maneuver into tight spaces to deliver small explosive charges directly to their targets. Flown with VR headsets, the FPV drones provide an immersive experience, allowing soldiers to guide them with pinpoint accuracy. As part of Project Lewes, this training aims to integrate new technologies into the Army’s operations to improve efficiency and lethality. Soldiers are selected through screening sessions to join the jHub Drone Academy, where they hone their FPV flying skills. This new capability gives infantry units greater tactical flexibility, reducing reliance on traditional artillery and airstrikes.
