The Republic of Korea Armed Forces have conducted their first joint air-ground integrated firepower live-fire exercise of the year.

The large-scale exercises held at the Seungjin Science And Technology Training Center in Pocheon-Si, Gyeonggi-Do, involved approximately 400 soldiers from the Republic of Korea Army’s (ROKA) 17th Infantry Division and 12 Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) F-15K, KF-16, And FA-50 fighter jets. The army used 90 pieces of equipment, including K1E1 Main Battle Tanks, K808 wheeled armored vehicles and K200A1 armoured vehicles.

Over the course of the exercises, 17th Division undertook an offensive operation with combined forces that included Army Aviation, MBTs, armored vehicles, infantry, engineers, and Chemical, Biological, And Radiological Warfare units. The ROKAF provided Close Air Support dropping 20 MK82, 84 bombs, based on real-time target information provided by the Joint Tactical Attack Controller.

The CAS effort was assessed to have destroyed half of an enemy tank battalion and an infantry regiment's strength. This was followed by a ground offensive with K1E1 MBTs and K808 wheeled armored vehicles, which were supported by Army Aviation MD500 attack helicopters firing 2.75” rockets.

Mine clearing exercises were performed with a KM9ACE combat armored dozer which used a Minefield Clearing Linear Explosive to clear the minefield.
