Engineering & Computer Simulations (ECS) has successfully received reappraisal for Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Maturity Level 3 (ML3) – and updated to the improved 2.0 model – from the CMMI Institute.

CMMI is a capability improvement framework that provides businesses with the essential elements of processes that enhance overall performance. ECS has developed an integrated set of best practices and processes that meet standards established by the CMMI framework and are constantly measured and improved upon to increase quality, decrease time-to-market, lower costs, and provide better product lifecycle management. In obtaining this reappraisal, ECS worked closely with Ralph Williams and Jordan Williams of Cooliemon, a Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Transition Partner.

Obtaining a CMMI ML3 reappraisal is a significant accomplishment, according to Mick Golson, ECS president, who explained that all of ECS’ processes and projects continually undergo audits to verify that ECS is following correct processes and adhering to required standards. The company received its initial CMMI ML3 appraisal in 2021 following its last round of reappraisals, which was previously appraised at Maturity Level 2. Golson noted that obtaining this reappraisal improves ECS’ operations in numerous ways and validates the company’s efforts to constant quality assurance and self-improvement.

“Maintaining our CMMI ML3 appraisal means that we’re better, faster and smarter in all areas for the best decision-making possible,” Golson said. “It helps us create and maintain repeatable, reliable processes for the entire organization and pursue new business opportunities that require a high standard of process maturity and standardization. In the longer run, it also increases quality and improves performance as we refine our operations for better efficiency.”

ECS is now in a new three-year cycle, during which the company will maintain and improve its processes and standards through continuous enhancement and self-auditing. It will undergo its next reappraisal in 2027.
