The American Osteopathic Association Commission onOsteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) awarded Kansas City University (KCU)College of Osteopathic Medicine a status of exceptional outcome, the higheststatus possible from the accrediting body of osteopathic medical education.This accreditation is effective for the maximum ten years, granting KCU thisoutstanding status through 2029.
The designation comes after an extensive evaluation and reviewof campuses in Kansas City and Joplin, Missouri, to determine if KCU meets orexceeds standards in curriculum, mission, leadership, finances, facilitiesfaculty, staff, students, research and graduate medical education outcomes. KCUhas met every accreditation standard.
KCU is one of only four osteopathic medical schools in thenation to receive an exceptional outcome designation.
“This outstanding achievement for the university could nothave been possible without the distinct leadership of our executive dean, Dr.Darrin D’Agostinio,” said Edward O’Connor, PhD, MBA, executive vice presidentfor Academic, Research and Student Affairs and provost. “His work with ourfaculty, staff and students was transformative and laid the groundwork formeeting COCA’S high standards for exceptional outcomes.”
“This exceptional outcome status is the result of many yearsof hard work by our faculty and staff and their dedication to the guidingprinciples of osteopathic medicine that KCU embodies every day,” said DarrinD’Agostino, DO, MPH, MBA, executive dean, College of Osteopathic Medicine andvice president for Health Affairs. “Our patient-centered approach, along withour innovative curriculum, hands-on early clinical experiences, standardizedpatients and simulation, access to student research and an emphasis on primarycare has proven to be one of the best ways to educate physicians in thenation.”

Results of the COCA accreditation process will be reportedto the U.S. Department of Education, the Missouri Department of HigherEducation and the Higher Learning Commission.
