The Learning Center, powered by HIMSS, is hosting the “Improving Patient Safety: The Implications of Internet Of Things And Wearables on Infection Control Strategies” webinar on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. CT. Sponsored by HP Inc., the webinar will show the implications and risks of smart devices in a healthcare setting, how to mitigate contaminants and the spread of Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs), the global challenge of electromagnetic interference, how to provide safe electronics around sensitive equipment and high-risk patients, and discuss the manufacturers developing devices specifically to meet healthcare's critical safety needs.

The Centers for Disease Control estimatethat hospitals are responsible for 1.7 million HAIs in the U.S. resulting in99,000 associated deaths , more annually than those who die from car accidentsin the United States. Moreover, in Canada 220,000 patients were affected withHAIs resulting in 12,000 deaths. Given the exponential growth of Internet ofThings (IoT) devices in the hospital environment, it is essential thathealthcare professionals are aware of the significance of infectious vectors onwearables and other IoT devices and how they can improve patient safety, without compromising the devices' integrity in the process.
