Collège Boréal has launched Mining Potential, a new program to help the industry address labour shortages and recruit more women, youth and newcomers in Northern Ontario.

The 14-week training program, developed by Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR), includes a 165-hour interactive instructor-led theory component and 120 hours of enrichment activities. The program will be offered at the school’s Sudbury and Timmins campuses on 16 February 2022.

After completing the program, graduates will obtain a certificate of achievement from MiHR and Collège Boréal, and Collège Boréal certificates such as WHMIS, CPR, Working at Heights and Service Type Common Core.

Collège Boréal has partnered with Newmont Corporation, Huron Mining and Lake Shore Gold to make the program cost more affordable. Newmont Corporation is sponsoring the cost of the program for 10 students, and others will only pay $250 for the program. Huron Mining is providing common core training, basic underground hard rock mine service-type common core. Lake Shore Gold will be offering site visits and opportunities for guest speakers.
