As we enter 2025, we reflect on the achievements in aviation training and CAT's contributions to industry advancement. Despite supply chain challenges and ongoing safety considerations, the airline training community has continued to strengthen its commitment to operational safety and excellence.

Editorial Coverage

Throughout 2024, CAT focused on business-critical developments:

  • Training Technology Advancement: Coverage of Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence implementation across pilot, cabin crew, and maintenance training operations, with emphasis on practical applications and ROI.
  • Competency-Based Training Implementation: Analysis of CBTA adoption across organisations, including implementation strategies and measurable outcomes in operational safety.
  • Ab Initio Program Development: Examination of curriculum modernisation efforts to align with current industry requirements and optimise the transition from training to operations.
  • Maintenance Training Evolution: Documentation of systematic approaches to upgrading maintenance training methodologies for the expanding aviation workforce.
  • Workforce Development: Analysis of evidence-based strategies for recruitment, training efficiency, and retention, with focus on expanding the talent pipeline.

Bringing It to Life at Our Events

Last year, CAT kept its place at the heart of aviation training with three incredible events that brought together thousands of professionals from across the globe:

  • WATS (World Aviation Training Summit): Held in sunny Orlando, WATS 2024 tackled key challenges like recruitment, regulatory updates, and integrating new tech. It was an      amazing opportunity to connect and share insights. WATS 2024 attracted over 1,200 professionals from more than 50 countries, marking a significant increase in participation.
  • EATS (European Airline Training Symposium): Cascais, Portugal, was the perfect backdrop for EATS 2024. The event saw participation from over 900 attendees representing more than 50 countries, underscoring its status as Europe's premier aviation training event. With new streams like Maintenance Training, it offered fresh perspectives and practical takeaways for everyone who attended.
  • APATS (Asia Pacific Airline Training Symposium): APATS returned to Singapore in style, covering everything  from Ab Initio, pilot and cabin crew training to Maintenance. It was a      powerhouse of discussions on training trends in the Asia-Pacific region. APATS 2024 marked a historic gathering with senior leadership from Airbus, Boeing, COMAC, and Embraer sharing the stage for the first time, reflecting the event's growing influence.

Groups and Forums

  • The ATLF (Airline Training Leaders Forum) has grown from strength to strength in 2024, with over 1300 members. With 200 plus members in the Heads of Training Group and more than 530 members in the WiAT (Women in Aviation Training) Group, continued discussions with the forum ensure dialogue continues outside our events, throughout the year.
  • The Heads of Training workshops continue to be a critical and highly popular event at each of our regional summits, attracting over 100 attendees at each workshop. With outcomes and tasks adopted by the ATPG (Airline Training Policy Group), and leading directly into EASA, these essential sessions directly contribute to the challenges and change required to maintain aviation safety.

If you’re wondering about the impact of technology on training last year?:

Emerging technologies have continued to revolutionise training and simulation, creating immersive, effective, and innovative learning experiences.

Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR), and Extended Reality (XR): These cutting-edge technologies have made significant strides in training environments, offering lifelike simulations that enhance engagement and skill development. Explore how VR, MR, and XR are shaping training initiatives across industries in Halldale’s comprehensive insights.

Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI has been a game-changer, enabling personalized learning paths, adaptive simulations, and predictive analytics to optimize training outcomes. Discover the transformative role of AI in modern training practices by visiting Halldale’s coverage on AI.
