Singapore, Thai Navies Complete Bilateral Exercise Singsiam

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) trained together in the recently concluded Exercise Singsiam, held in Sattahip, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

The week-long maritime exercise witnessed the participation of the RSN's Victory-Class missile Corvette RSS Valiant, and Independence-Class Littoral Mission Vessel RSS Indomitable.

The RTN’S Naresuan-Class Frigate HTMS Taksin, Adulyadej-Class Frigate HTMS Bhumibol Adulyadej took part in the exercises joined by a Dornier-228 Maritime Patrol Aircraft and a S-70B naval helicopter.

Highlighting the importance of Exercise Singsiam, Commander 3rd Flotilla, Colonel Siswi Herlini said, the event was an important component of strong bilateral relations. “Both our navies have benefited from exercising together and the exercise is a good platform for our officers and sailors to foster camaraderie, mutual understanding and cooperation.”

Over the course of the exercise, both navies conducted a series of maritime security and conventional warfare drills, including gunnery firings, vertical replenishment, as well as communication and maneuvering serials. A new addition to this year’s exercise series was the inclusion of a Humanitarian Assistance And Disaster Relief (HADR) ashore planning exercise.

This was the 21st edition of Exercise Singsiam, since its inauguration in 1981.
