ASTi-to-provide-SERA-pilot-training-developments

Advanced Simulation Technology inc. (ASTi), a supplier of communications, automated Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems and sound systems, will provide new features for its Simulated Environment for Realistic ATC (SERA) product for Lockheed Martin’s AIR 5428 Pilot Training System. The AIR 5428 program delivers an integrated training solution for future pilots of the Australian Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Army.

ASTi says SERA increases flight training realism and eliminates the need for instructor role-play. It also introduces real-world communication demands, increases training value and decreases training costs.

The latest SERA developments will let users implement vectoring to and from practice areas, which adds practice area traffic; create traffic patterns; add and configure repeatable runway incursion incidents in scenarios; perform military high-key/low-key style approaches and touch-and-go landings; configure custom settings for military traffic ; and allow transition from a visual flight rule (VFR) to an instrument flight rule (IFR) plan. SERA will include Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) phraseology and automatic Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File (DAFIF) data imports. DAFIF will let SERA and the simulator synchronize and provide up-to-date procedures and air spaces. The tools will confirm proper operation before and after software updates and let program engineers test AI behaviors and responses for an entire flight.
