Aerojet Rocketdyne’s Advanced Tactical Booster program completed two hot-fire tests of a motor mimicking extreme cold- and hot-soak conditions for air-launch application at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
Aerojet’s solid rocket booster motor will accelerate a vehicle during its initial phase of flight. Aerojet tested the motors with extreme temperatures to verify its performance across a range of anticipated operational conditions. Data from the tests will be used to confirm Aerojet’s ballistic, thermal, structural and ignition models for next generation operational booster rocket motors.
The solid rocket motors were designed and fabricated for AFRL under a contract to developing advanced booster technologies for use on future vehicles.
