Moving to enhance the modeling and simulation capabilities of military organizations and system integrators specializing in defense vehicle training, CM Labs Simulations and Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim) announced the launch of the new Vortex® Studio for VBS integration.
Virtual Battlespace (VBS3) provides a multiplayer, virtual training environment for land, air and sea training and mission rehearsal applications. It has become an industry standard in game-based military simulation and is used extensively in over 50 countries to train hundreds of thousands of military personnel per year. Vortex for VBS has also been tested with VBS STE, a prototype version of BISim’s next generation training and simulation software combining an enhanced VBS simulation engine with VBS Blue whole-earth rendering.
Vortex Studio is a simulation and visualization platform designed to support the simulation of tactical wheeled and tracked vehicles, as well as logistics and engineering equipment. Boasting the industry’s highest-fidelity real-time interactive vehicle simulation, Vortex Studio is built on validated models and 20 years of simulation expertise.
Supporting Vortex Studio’s mechanism models (parts, constraints, attachments, scripting), along with advanced vehicle systems, cable systems and terrain interactions, Vortex Studio for VBS is a groundbreaking development in military training simulations. The new software integration allows these simulation platforms to work together, making it easy for VBS3 and VBS STE users to create and deploy high-fidelity simulations of vehicles and ground equipment for applications in training and mission planning.
“For military training, transferable skills acquisition is critical—and Vortex Studio for VBS succeeds in driving heightened realism for VBS scenarios and vehicle simulations,” said Arnold Free, CM Lab’s Chief Commercial Officer. “With Vortex Studio’s vehicle dynamics, simulation specialists can build outstanding virtual environments that result in a training experience that feels closer to what they will face on the ground.”
Simulation providers using VBS3 and the upcoming VBS STE can work within the Vortex Studio Editor—a complete desktop-based 3D editing environment—to create and test vehicles that closely reflect real equipment operation. This includes advanced modeling of the entire powertrain, suspension, braking systems and tire/track ground interaction, allowing simulation of complex interactions between vehicles and the virtual environment that they have developed within VBS. A simple workflow enables users to export Vortex Studio models to VBS and deploy them in VBS scenarios.
“We are pleased to introduce the Vortex Studio platform to VBS users and expect that many will find it a great addition to our capabilities on the ground,” said Cory Kumm, BISim’s Senior Vice President, Corporate Development. “The expertise and capabilities that CM Labs brings to VBS will make the integrated applications the ideal platform for the development of driver trainer simulators and any simulation application requiring higher fidelity physics.”
Vortex Studio for VBS is completely integrated with VBS3, has been tested with VBS STE and will be on display and available for demos at I/ITSEC 2018. Vortex Studio for VBS is now available for purchase directly from Bohemia Interactive Simulations.
