The Australian Army has followed its Navy colleagues in signing up Cubic Global Defence to provide simulation training.
The training will prepare soldiers for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense (CBRND) missions.
“Cubic’s capability includes simulation of detection, casualty status, treatment and weather impacts,” said Miles Macdonald, general manager of Cubic Defence Australia and New Zealand.
"It’s about enabling soldiers to realistically undertake threat identification, to test their mitigation and decontamination procedures and to understand the consequence of a threat and their own actions within the safety of a training environment."
Macdonald said the system could project synthetic CBRN effects over large numbers of Australian Army soldiers exercising on training areas.
Cubic New Zealand and Cubic Australia will jointly run the training system.
Cubic also won a contract to provide simulation training services to the Royal Australian Navy in 2017.
