A major US defence aviation company has taken delivery of the first four of Cobra Simulation’s new Cobra180 immersive displays.
The customer saw the product in its final prototype stage and placed an order for the entire first production run.
The units are already in service ahead of the official launch at I/ITSEC in Orlando from December 2-6.
The Cobra180 is the latest product in the Cobra range to utilise bespoke first surface mirror technology to deliver a 180 degree field of view using the output of a single projector and image generator – avoiding the need to blend multiple images or licence multiple image generators.
Single channel displays are perfect where the user wants great immersive visuals with zero set up overhead and low maintenance. The Cobra180 is designed for multiple simulation types – floor mounted for individual JTAC training, designed to take a custom cut-out for fitting around a cockpit or driver’s cabin and ‘motion ready’ to be mounted on motion platforms.
"The Cobra180 has inherited all the key design elements of our proven and popular Cobra150 unit – but delivers full 180 degree peripheral vision and a deeper vertical field of view," said Alex Bradley, Founder and engineering lead at Cobra Simulation.
"It’s slightly larger diameter allows it to wrap around most cockpits and driver positions while still retaining its portability and single channel delivery.” Rod Stafford, Sales Director, commented.
Cobra said that they were staying loyal to single channel solutions while competitors go for more extensive multi-channel designs.
"We have persisted and...enhanced our designs so that a 4k visual can be wrapped closely around the viewpoint of a pilot, driver or ground observer," Stafford said.
