Exercise AUSTRAHIND is planned to become an annual exercise series between the Indian and Australian Armies.

The second edition of the Austrahind joint military exercise series (Austrahind-23) is underway in Perth, Australia.

The exercise events between the Indian and Australian armies conclude this December 6.

The Indian Armed Forces contingent comprises of 81 personnel, out of which 60 belong to a Gorkha Rifles Battalion. Other participants from India, include one naval officer and 20 Indian Air Force personnel.

Sixty personnel from the Australian Army’s 13th Brigade are participating in the exercise and the Australian contingent also includes 20 personnel each from the Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force.

The training curriculum for the joint exercise events includes sniper firing, and joint operation of surveillance and communication equipment to achieve a high degree of situational awareness.

Casualty management and evacuation will also be rehearsed along with tactical actions at company/ battalion levels.

Exercise Austrahind was instituted in 2022. The first edition was conducted in India at the Mahajan ranges in Rajasthan. The exercise series is planned to become an annual affair, held alternatively in India and Australia.
