The 6th edition of the India-Japan Joint Military Exercise Dharma Guardian is underway at the East Fuji Manoeuvre Training area in Japan.
The exercise features 120 Indian troops represented mainly by a battalion of the Madras Regiment along with troops from others arms and services, concludes on March 9. The Japan Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF) 34th Infantry Regiment is participating in the exercises, with a similar strength of 120 personnel.
Personnel from both armies are training together to enhance interoperability while undertaking joint urban warfare and counter-terrorism operations. Other aspects include tactical planning, reconnaissance by drone, air assault and clearing buildings for elimination of threats in an urbanized area in order to enhance counter-terrorism capabilities.
